Dr. Kristine Zonka joined the Florida Department of Health in Brevard County as the Health Officer in April 2023. Kristine is a registered nurse and certified family nurse practitioner. Kristine brings to her role nearly 29 years of combined experience as a healthcare provider, medical director, and public policy to DOH and Brevard County.

She graduated from Frontier Nursing University with a Family Nurse Practitioner master’s degree, and in 2020 with a Doctorate Degree in Nurse Practice. Kristine is an engaged member of the community, working for many years with organizations that improve the health and wellness of the community. She is passionate about improving patient access to healthcare and screenings, affordable/workforce housing, chronic disease management and prevention, our aging population, and women’s health.

Kristine brings extensive public policy experience to her role, having served as a Brevard County Commissioner for over six years as well as a city councilmember in Brevard for seven years. She collaborated with government leaders at the city, county, state and federal levels on numerous issues over that time.

Kristine has lived in Brevard County for almost 25 years, is married to her husband Milo, and they have 5 children. Kristine and Milo give back to their community in ways too many to list.

Understanding there are many needs in the county, Kristine is excited to work with DOH staff and local community partners to improve the overall health and wellness of our community.
