Viera, FL The Florida Department of Health in Brevard County (DOH-Brevard) and Space Coast Health Foundation (SCHF) are partnering to celebrate National Minority Health Month (NMHM) in April with two special events for Brevard County residents.

On Wednesday, April 13, from 12:00PM – 1:00PM, residents are invited to a free virtual presentation by Dr. Sheron Brown titled Let’s Talk About Minority Health. It’s a Game Changer! This presentation is limited to the first 100 registrants so we encourage residents and providers to register early for this event.

Dr. Brown is a woman with, and driven by, purpose and vision. In her current role as Executive Director of the Tampa Bay Health Collaborative (TBHC), Dr. Brown has a keen focus on bringing individuals and organizations together to work collaboratively towards health equity.

SCHF and DOH-Brevard are also hosting a health equity focus group on Thursday, April 21, from 10:30AM – 12:00PM. The purpose of this focus group is to gather information directly from residents regarding issues that prevent them from achieving their full health potential. This event is limited to 50 registrants and all participants will receive a $25 gift card in appreciation of their time and contributions. Register now to save your place.

“Achieving health equity across all populations in Brevard is critical,” said DOH-Brevard Administrator Maria Stahl. “We need to raise awareness about health disparities that continue to affect minority populations and take action through health education, early detection, and control of diseases, including COVID-19.”
