Melbourne, Fla.—The Florida Department of Health in Brevard County (DOH-Brevard) is notifying individuals who received medical care at Lily J. Voepel, MD, Interventional Pain Management, located at 4015 N Harbor City Blvd., Melbourne, FL 32935, between June 2023 and March 2025 regarding unsafe infection control practices that may have occurred during their medical care.

The safety and well-being of the community is the Florida Department of Health’s (Department) highest priority. Following a recent review of the facility’s practices, it was determined that proper infection control measures may not have been followed during medical care. The Department is taking proactive steps to ensure affected individuals are informed and can take appropriate action.

The Department is advising all patients who received medical care at this facility to undergo testing for the hepatitis C virus (HCV), a treatable bloodborne disease. Hepatitis C often has no symptoms in its early stages, so testing is important for early detection. However, if left untreated, the virus can cause serious complications, including liver damage and liver cancer. Treatment options are available for individuals who do test positive. The Department is also strongly advising patients to talk to their health care provider about the need for testing for other bloodborne diseases, such as HIV and hepatitis B. It is extremely important to get tested as soon as possible.

What Affected Patients Should Do:

• Contact Your Health Care Provider: If you received medical care at Lily J. Voepel, MD, Interventional Pain Management, it is recommended that you speak with your health care provider to discuss potential risks and the need for hepatitis C and other bloodborne disease testing.
• Get Tested: If advised by your health care provider, make arrangements to get tested. Walk-in testing for hepatitis C is available Monday through Friday from 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the following location:
