Brevard County—The Florida Department of Health in Brevard County (DOH-Brevard) Women, Infants and Children (WIC) Program created a breastfeeding support group meeting to serve the Titusville and Melbourne communities. Trish Daley, DOH-Brevard Training Specialist, has introduced this program in an effort to promote the importance of breastfeeding to support moms and infants in our county.

A breastfeeding support group participant stated, “I love it (the WIC breastfeeding support groups). To me it’s a great opportunity because I am new to the area and don’t know anyone. It’s nice to get together with other mothers and share information, especially since I am breastfeeding twins. I leave the meetings feeling uplifted and energized”.

The WIC program Director, Victor Rodriguez, RD reports that “the Brevard WIC program is really excited that mothers in our community are participating in the breastfeeding support groups that are available free of charge. It is really great to see that so many women are realizing the benefits of nursing their children and that there is a positive exchange of information and encouragement between participants.

The DOH-Brevard WIC program is offering these meetings at the Titusville and Melbourne WIC offices. For more information about WIC breastfeeding support groups or program eligibility please call the appointment line at (321) 639-5793.
